More Opportunities to Begin at PLC

PLC is expanding its Junior School intake for 2027, with new classes creating additional places in Kindergarten, Year 3, and Year 5.

For families considering a PLC education for their daughter, 2027 will bring more opportunities to begin the journey.

Presbyterian Ladies’ College is adding new classes in Kindergarten, Year 3, and Year 5, opening additional places at three important stages of a girl’s Junior School education.

The expansion has been carefully planned to allow more families to access a PLC education while maintaining the advantageous student-to-teacher ratios, personalised learning, and strong relationships that underpin the Junior School experience.

At PLC, every girl is known and valued. Advantageous student-to-teacher ratios give teachers greater opportunity to understand how each student learns, recognise her strengths and interests, and provide the right balance of support and challenge as she progresses.

This is particularly valuable in literacy and mathematics, where students regularly work in smaller groups according to their learning needs. Teachers can provide targeted instruction, extend students who are ready for greater challenge, and offer additional support when it is needed.

Principal Ms Cate Begbie said the expansion was about creating greater access while preserving the quality of the learning experience.

“By creating additional classes, we can continue to provide the high teacher-to-student ratios and small group learning experiences that allow our teachers to truly know each girl,” Ms Begbie said.

“This is particularly important in literacy and mathematics, where small group learning enables teachers to provide targeted support, meaningful challenge, and individual encouragement as each child develops the skills and confidence that will support her throughout her educational journey.”

Starting Strong

The addition of a new Kindergarten class creates more opportunities for girls to begin their education at PLC from the earliest years.

Kindergarten is about much more than preparation for formal schooling. It is a time when children develop confidence and independence, learn how to build relationships, discover new interests, and begin to see themselves as capable and curious learners.

Through inquiry-based and hands-on learning, girls are encouraged to explore, question, create, and make connections with the world around them. Advantageous student-to-teacher ratios allow educators to closely observe each child’s development and respond to her individual interests and needs.

These early relationships also help establish something that remains central throughout a PLC education: a strong sense of belonging.

New Entry Points

Additional classes in Year 3 and Year 5 will also create new opportunities for families seeking to join PLC during the primary years.

Both are important stages in a girl’s educational development. As students become increasingly independent learners, they are encouraged to think more deeply, take greater ownership of their learning, and build the confidence to try new things.

Joining PLC at these stages also gives girls time to establish friendships, become part of the wider College community, and experience the breadth of opportunities available before transitioning into Senior School.

“At PLC, we want every girl to be known as an individual,” Ms Begbie said.

“Our teachers can understand where she is in her learning, what she needs next, and where she is ready to be challenged. Just as importantly, they know the person behind the learner. That connection between academic growth and personal wellbeing is fundamental to the education we provide.”

More Than a Classroom

Across the Junior School, learning extends well beyond core academic subjects.

Students benefit from specialist teaching, the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, rich co-curricular opportunities, sport, music, performing and visual arts, Outdoor Education, and a strong focus on wellbeing and pastoral care.

Together, these experiences help girls discover what interests them, develop new capabilities, and build the confidence to participate fully in school life.

The new Kindergarten, Year 3, and Year 5 classes represent measured growth for PLC’s Junior School and a valuable opportunity for more families to become part of the College community in 2027.

For families considering PLC, the best way to understand the difference is to experience it firsthand.
