Learning
Learning Takes Many Paths
At PLC Perth, learning is about more than subjects and classrooms – it’s about curiosity, exploration, and the confidence to try.
Our broad curriculum is enriched by hands-on experiences and opportunities that extend well beyond the traditional classroom. Guided by a “have-a-go” culture, students are encouraged to discover their strengths, pursue their passions and take on new challenges with support at every stage.
Innovation has long been part of PLC. We were one of the first schools in Australia to embrace laptops more than 30 years ago and today we continue to prepare students for a rapidly changing world. While new technologies like AI are transforming the workplace, we believe the future will always be shaped by human qualities – critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration.
These skills grow at PLC through real-world experiences: working with experts, performing and presenting, designing and building or even launching a commercial enterprise.
This is what makes a PLC education world-class.

Three Pathways at PLC
At Presbyterian Ladies’ College, we offer three distinct pathways to help your daughter prepare for her future.
She can choose the ATAR pathway for university entry, pursue a General/Vocational Education and Training (VET) for hands-on industry experience (or a hybrid), or embrace a global perspective through the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
Each option is designed to cater to her strengths, interests, and aspirations, ensuring she is equipped to thrive in whichever direction she chooses.
Future Learning
At PLC, future learning is about providing every student the skills and confidence to succeed in a world shaped by technology, creativity, and constant change.
Experiential Learning
Learning that goes beyond the classroom!
Our experiential learning programmes inspire curiosity, resilience, and real-world skills through hands-on experiences.
From Outdoor Education, where students build confidence in nature, to global and local trips that broaden perspectives, Service Learning which bridges classroom knowledge with real-world application – every opportunity is designed for growth.

Years 7 to 9
A foundation for discovery.
The Years 7 to 9 programme at PLC is designed to be a crucial period of discovery and growth. Our curriculum is built upon a dynamic inquiry-based framework that encourages your daughter to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and take ownership of her learning journey. This foundational approach ensures that curiosity is at the heart of everything we do.
Exploring with Purpose and Agency
In these foundational years, your daughter will be provided with repeated opportunities to engage with a wide variety of subjects. The inquiry-based model empowers your daughter with agency, giving her a voice and choice in her learning. Your daughter will transform her creativity and curiosity into innovative ideas that make her world a better place, fostering a sense of responsibility and innovation from a young age.
Fostering Future-Ready Skills
This programme is delivered through a commitment to excellent teaching, where our educators act as guides, mentoring your daughter through complex challenges. Our teachers inspire students to think critically and creatively, preparing them for an ever-changing world. The result of this unique approach is the development of curious, entrepreneurial, and confident students who are well-equipped with the skills to succeed in their future endeavours.
These skills become the foundation for Years 10 to 12, when your daughter takes greater ownership of her learning, explores her academic passions, and prepare for life beyond PLC.

Academic Support
We recognise that every student learns differently. Our Academic Support programme is designed to meet individual needs, build on strengths, empower students to access the curriculum, and contribute to the learning experience. From in-class support and targeted enrichment classes to personalised learning plans and specialist study spaces, we provide a network of care that supports confidence, independence, and academic growth.
Academic Extension
Academic extension at PLC is about nurturing curiosity, deepening understanding, and empowering students to reach beyond the expected. Through innovative and differentiated programmes and cross-year collaborations, we challenge high-ability learners to think critically, solve complex problems, and grow in confidence.
Responsible Use of Technology
At PLC, technology is carefully managed so that learning and wellbeing come first. Phones have no place in the school day – students know the boundaries, and they are consistently enforced so that classrooms and playgrounds remain focused on face-to-face connection.
To protect learning, we combine clear rules with safeguards on our network. Platforms such as Netflix and YouTube are blocked, iMessages are disabled for younger students and classroom devices are closely monitored by staff.
From Junior to Senior School, students learn about online safety, privacy, security and the ethical use of digital platforms, including emerging technologies such as AI.
In Boarding, social media is disabled for younger students and restricted during study times for older girls.
Partnership with families is central. PLC and Scotch College share an Online Safety Hub with practical resources and we run regular Y-Safe sessions to support parents in guiding their children’s digital lives.
At PLC, technology will always be a tool to enrich learning, never a replacement for human interaction, creativity or critical thinking.
