Bus Services
To make your daughter’s journey to and from school as easy as possible, we encourage families to take advantage of the convenient bus routes that run both before and after school servicing a variety of suburbs.
Dedicated School Buses
PLC offers dedicated Horizons West buses together with Scotch College and St Hilda’s.
Please note that while some of the bus routes pass other schools, these bus services are strictly for PLC, Scotch College, and St Hilda’s students.
This service is suitable for students in both the Junior School and Senior School.
The cost of using this bus is a flat fee of $2.50.

Tickets
On the first day of school, new students will be supplied with a blank SmartRider Card to be used until they are issued with a permanent one with their school photo.
SmartRider cards can be ordered from the Junior School Reception and Senior School Receptions at View Street and McNeil Street.
This SmartRider is to be used for both Transperth and Horizons West services.
These SmartRiders must be activated prior to use through the below steps.
Activating SmartRiders
Please follow the steps below for either Transperth or Horizons West prior to her starting to catch the bus.
Horizons West School Buses
Step 01: Click here and select SIGN UP to create an account with the tag on/tag off system used by Horizons West (Swype).
Step 02: The Communications and Engagement department at PLC will verify your daughter as a PLC student (please allow one day) .
Step 03: Once this is completed, you can log back in here and top up credit for your daughter’s travel.
Step 04: Your daughter needs to link her physical SmartRider card with the account you have just set up. This is done by taking her SmartRider to either the Tech Centre (for Senior School students) or the IT Service Desk in front of the STEM Room (for Junior School students). Students may do this themselves.
Step 05: Your daughter can now use her SmartRider to tag on and tag off the Horizons West buses.

Horizons West Buses Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Your daughter may use the bus from the first day of school and prior to receiving their SmartRider card or competing all the activation steps, however, Step 01 must be completed prior to travel for safety purposes.
The likely answer is that two accounts have been created accidentally in which case there will be one account accruing a debt and the other account with the credit in it.
Please email [email protected] to bring this to our attention. If left unaddressed, at the end of the term, these accounts will be merged and the outstanding balance added to your term fees account. As this is a manual process, it is in parents’ best interest to bring this to our attention to avoid any potential human error with this process.
Please email [email protected] to request a staff member to escort her to her bus for the first 1-2 occasions. A PLC staff member will give her instructions on how to identify the bus and tag on, introduced to other students catching the same bus, and introduced to the bus driver ensuring she gets off at her desired stop.
If her SmartRider is not working to tag on the bus, there are a number of reasons why this could be the case. Please follow each of the Activating SmartRiders steps above.
If she is still experiencing problems, please email [email protected] or ask your daughter to take her SmartRider to the Tech Centre to look into a possible reason.
No. This process takes a lot longer than quickly swiping the SmartRider and if every student did this, then the buses would all run later than the scheduled timings.
Doing this also means that you will see a bus charge on your daughter’s term fees account. Adding this is a manual process and could result in a human error. To ensure you only pay for what your daughter uses, it is strongly advised that the account is set up correctly and credit loaded to the account.
In this case, Horizons West bus drivers will instruct the student to enter her student ID number on the ipad and select name. She will need to remember to bring her SmartRider in the future.
The bus drivers are instructed to stop at every stop even if they cannot see any students waiting to board or disembark.
Bus drivers have a duty of care to students and will always stop for a PLC student wearing uniform and conversely, always ensure she gets to where she needs to be.
Junior School students are encouraged to advise the bus driver of the stop they wish to disembark so the driver may prompt your daughter when they arrive.
