Scholarship Fund

The Scholarship Fund reflects PLC’s deep commitment to a culture of diversity, inclusivity, empathy, and respect.

Our scholarship students strengthen our entire College and contribute so much to our community. Therefore, each year the PLC Foundation offers several means-tested scholarships to students who would otherwise be unable to attend PLC due to their family’s financial circumstances. These means-tested scholarships are offered to students commencing in Year 7 and provide 100% tuition fees from Year 7 to Year 12.

Building Fund

Our community knows that PLC is far more than just bricks and mortar, however, the best education demands the best facilities, and the PLC Foundation continues to be incredibly proud to support the College’s bold and contemporary Campus Master Plan.

All well-managed schools require a constant programme of infrastructure improvements and upgrade of facilities. At PLC, these projects are funded from income allocated to specific capital projects and through tax deductible gifts made to the Foundation’s Building Fund.

Leave a gift in your will

Generosity has shaped PLC Perth for over a century, driven by a steadfast belief in the power of educating girls. From its earliest days, PLC has pursued a vision to transform lives through learning, a vision made tangible by the devoted and generous commitment of its benefactors.

From the personal financial contributions of our founding committee in 1917, to the enduring legacies of donors like Donald Carmichael and Dr Vera Summers, bequests have strengthened PLC at every stage.

These gifts have created life-changing scholarships and supported the development of inspiring learning spaces. They have also upheld the values that most define our girls – compassionate, brave, capable and strong.

Frequently asked questions

Are donations tax deductible?

Donations made to the PLC Foundation Building Fund and PLC Foundation Scholarship Fund are fully tax deductible and donors will receive a tax receipt.

Do you ask everyone to donate?

Each year, the PLC Foundation asks the entire community to donate. We are exceptionally proud of our diverse community and fully understand the varying financial capabilities of our community, therefore the Foundation only asks that donors give at a level that is meaningful to them.

All gifts, no matter the size, have an enormous impact and the Foundation is grateful for each gift.

Can I donate in instalments?
Donors can support the PLC Foundation in several ways including single gift donations, as well as three and five-year pledges.
Why does PLC require donations if school fees are already so high?
Approximately 85% of expenditure is directed towards salaries and resources, reflecting PLC’s commitment to re-investing tuition fees and other sources of funding directly back into teaching and learning for the benefit of our students. Tuition fees do not provide funding for new buildings or scholarships.
Does PLC receive government funding?
All government funding received by the College must be applied to direct teaching and learning costs. PLC does not receive capital funding from State or Federal Government, therefore ongoing capital needs are entirely self-funded and/or drawing on loan facilities as necessary.
Additionally, with the uncertainty around the future of government funding, PLC needs philanthropic support to ensure it maintains its long-term independence.
Why leave a bequest?
Since 1941, PLC Perth has been the fortunate recipient of bequests that continue to have an enormous impact on our girls. Tuition fees do not provide funding for new buildings or means-tested scholarships, therefore, bequests can support the College in providing the best possible education for PLC students for generations to come.
Can I remain anonymous?
Of course – PLC respects the individual wishes of each donor. Every donor is acknowledged and celebrated in a way that they feel comfortable. If you advise PLC that you have included the College in your Will you are invited to join the Summers Society, which allows PLC to celebrate and acknowledge this significant decision during your lifetime.
Who should I speak with regarding my decision to leave a gift in my Will?
We first encourage you to speak with your family regarding your wishes and, additionally, we recommend that you discuss your intentions with your legal advisor before finalising details.
We would also encourage you to have a confidential discussion with the PLC Philanthropy and Fundraising Manager on (08) 9460 6534.
What type of bequest should I leave?
There are several ways to do this, including:
  • Residual gifts – a share in or all your estate after providing for your family, friends and additional wishes
  • Proportional gifts – a percentage of your estate
  • A designated or specific sum of money; or
  • Non-cash assets – this might include property, art, or shares.
How will my bequest be used?
Bequests can be either unrestricted or restricted. An unrestricted bequest will be allocated at the discretion of the Principal and PLC Foundation, based on the College’s greatest need at the time. A restricted gift can reflect a particular passion or area of interest for example means-tested scholarships or supporting the College’s facilities and Campus Master Plan.
We encourage to speak with the College prior to finalising your bequest to ensure we can meet your wishes.
