The PLC Foundation

From The Chairman  of the Foundation Board

The Foundation was established in 1988 as a memorial to the late Dr Vera Summers, Principal of PLC from 1934 to 1961. For more than 90 years, students at PLC have enjoyed a stimulating learning environment and facilities through the foresight and generosity of previous generations. The Foundation Board is committed to continuing this tradition for the benefit of future PLC generations.

As Chairman of the Foundation Board, I have a group of experienced and dedicated board members who willingly volunteer their time and expertise. The board comprises Jenny Thornton (Secretary), Elisa Fear, Carol Hardie, Sue Hobson, and Mimi Packer. PLC Principal, Beth Blackwood and Chair of Council the Hon Justice John McKechnie attend board meetings providing executive guidance.

The Foundation’s purpose is to attract funds, provide financial assistance to the school for the benefit of its students and safe guardianship of bequests and donations generously bestowed upon it for the future of the school. The Foundation also takes responsibility for all major capital campaigns for PLC.

Funds are managed by the board in accordance with prudential accounting, financial advisory and legal standards applicable to like funds to ensure students receive direct benefit through:
•    the granting of scholarships, bursaries, endowments, educational allowances and awards
•    the development of buildings and infrastructure
•    the enhancement of the cultural environment of the College
•    the development of new teaching methods including specialized skills, educational research projects and visits from academic specialists

Scholarships
There are a variety of scholarships at PLC and donations can be made for any amount towards the Deductible Gift Recipient registered Scholarship Fund. Established scholarships include:

  • DJ Carmichael Scholarships continue the school’s tradition of attracting and supporting academically talented students
  • Indigenous Scholarships are awarded each year to indigenous students from the Kimberley region who display outstanding leadership or academic potential and who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend the school
  • Music Scholarships and Bursaries are awarded to exceptionally talented music students

Should you wish to establish a scholarship for a finite period of time or in perpetuity, please contact our Fundraising Coordinator Ellaine Hislop on 9424 6444 or by email ehislop@plc.wa.edu.au

Building Fund
Donations to the Building Fund provide the necessary finances to complete projects that provide surroundings supportive of collaborative teaching and learning.

Past projects include the Science, Technology, Arts and Middle School building completed in 2007.  The Foundation is committed to several exciting new projects including the refurbishment of the Senior School.
