Community and Service Learning
Community and Service Learning at PLC is an area which links service into the curriculum and provides support for the wide range of service activities currently operating. Through this programme, PLC expands and develops many new partnerships with community organisations that will provide further opportunities to foster our students' commitment to participate in the community, promote engagement in schooling and experiencing civic responsibility.
The programme at present encourages students to develop an awareness and empathy whilst making a contribution to people and organisations in the community.
This experiential approach to learning is very powerful as it connects a young persons HEAD (intellect) with HEART (emotions/values) and HANDS (actions).
A Tradition of Service
PLC has a strong tradition of service to others which dates back to a former Principal, Dr Vera Summers and the 'Cot and Relief Fund'. This service goes back to after World War II where PLC raised funds for cots for Princess Margaret Hospital and helped children, worldwide, who were less fortunate than themselves.
Current Partnerships
Uniting Care West
Homelessness: closer to home than you think
As part of our growing partnership with Uniting Care West, we have commenced a Service Project to support the work of Wyn Carr House, a women's refuge. The accommodation is for women who are experiencing a crisis situation due to domestic viiolence, homelessness, mental health issues and/or substance use issues.
You are invited to support by preparing a 'comfort pack' (using either a homemade or recyclable bag) as an individual, with a friend, in a small group or as a family. For more information on Wyn Carr House and putting together a 'comfort pack' please download the information sheet.

TABITHA Foundation Australia Partnership
PLC has developed a six year tradition in its support of raising funds for the TABITHA Foundation Building Programme in Cambodia. Thank you and well done to our Junior School community who focused their energy and creativity towards this partnership. Over the last two years they have raised enough to build nearly four houses at a cost of $1,200 each.
